3 Tips for Getting Rid of Pesky Bathroom Mold

We have all been in our bathrooms at one time or another and spotted those dreaded dark spots nesting in the far corner of the bathroom. They typically begin near the shower as that is where the most steam and moisture is produced, and often spread quickly from there. It can be easy to brush off initially, and consider it as something you’ll get to later. But, that can lead to extended laziness on the task which only makes the mold harder to remove when you’re left with no choice but to take action. We’re here to give you some tips on how you can banish that mold before it becomes a potentially hazardous problem.

1.) Open a Window

This is perhaps the simplest step, if you have a window that is. Thankfully, most bathrooms come equipped with at least one. Opening a window while you shower and keeping it open once the shower is complete can drastically reduce the amount of built up moisture and humidity within the bathroom. If you have a fan in your bathroom then it wouldn’t be a terrible idea to turn that on too. If your bathroom doesn’t have a window, keep the door open if you can and keep the bathroom fan on the entire time. If you lack both a window, a fan, and the freedom to keep the door open while showering, then keep the door open long after the shower is over. If you fall into the latter category, I would suggest keeping a constant eye on the mold condition in your bathroom.

2.) Scrub the Mold Away

If you have tile throughout your bathroom and in the shower, then get out the elbow grease. If you want to properly care for your bathroom and keep it clean, you’re going to need some baking soda and a quality scrub brush. Make a paste of desired consistency with water and baking soda, and treat the grout between the tiles. You can leave it applied for as long as you’d like before spraying the tiles with water, and scrubbing the grout clean. After a solid scrub down your bathroom will likely be all set for a decent amount of time. Like with most things, however, consistent maintenance is key.

3.) Treat Mold Naturally

We always prefer going the eco-friendly route, so we suggest treating mold with a natural prohibiting spray if you want a simple DIY solution for a small problem. Once you’ve effectively cleaned your bathroom, you’re going to want something that helps keep the mold away. The solution consists of equal parts white vinegar and water, with 10 or so drops of tea tree essential oil. If you then put this mix into a spray bottle, you can easily mist almost all surfaces of your bathroom. Also, it’s cheap to make!
