Why Should I Schedule A Mold Inspection?

Mold is a living organism and fungal growth that forms and spreads to different types of damp or organic matter that are decaying. Mold inspections identify the presence of mold that thrives in moist or damp areas. These areas can include many different places in the home: HVAC systems, drywall, ceilings, basements, attics, kitchens, bathrooms, and much more.

How Mold Inspections Work

Mold inspections are vital because some kinds of mold are harmful to health. A mold inspection usually happens in a few different stages: a visual inspection, surface sampling/testing, and air sampling/testing. If mold is discovered, then the final step would be mold remediation.

The visual inspection is usually the first step a mold inspector will take. This process involves looking for signs of mold growth and hidden mold sources. Imaging technology can be used to discover areas with moisture beneath surfaces that permit mold growth.

After visual inspection, the next step is surface sampling or testing. Mold inspectors use bulk sampling by taking a part of the sampled area for laboratory testing. A swab will be rubbed across certain surfaces for testing.

Finally, air sampling is done by testing the air for the presence of mold spores. A spore trap or professional air sampling kit can be employed for inspecting signs of mold in the air of a home.

Why Your Home May Need A Mold Inspection

Water Damage:

Moisture and mold are highly correlated. When flooding has occurred, it is important to check for mold immediately after the house has been cleaned and dried up. Once water stains and discoloration are seen on the ceilings, floors, and where pipes are installed, it’s crucial to contact mold experts.

Leaks:

When leaks in a home are ignored, they foster mold growth. If you believe that there has been a prolonged leak in your home, there is a good chance you have mold.

Humidity

High humidity can lead to mold and mildew growth. If your home has high humidity levels, it could be a telltale sign of toxic mold growth throughout your house or building.

Strange Odor and Health issues:

When mold is in a home, a strange mildew-ish smell can occur. Health symptoms of mold exposure in the house include throat irritation, sneezing, cough, respiratory problems, and nasal and sinus congestion.
